Growing up in the Bahamas & having a professional diver as a father almost made it  inevitable that my siblings and I would all learn to swim at an early age. My father loved the water and began teaching us life saving & water safety skills when we were just toddlers. I remember going to the beach every Sunday after church and him taking us out in the ocean to practice floating & treading water. During the week, he would take us to the pool at UNEXSO, where he was an active member, to practice our strokes & teach us the proper way to dive. Since water safety and swimming was an important part of my childhood and a large part in my teenage years (lifeguard, swim instructor) I knew that I would instill these values in my children.

I love swimming and began exposing my little ones to the water as young as 6 months old so they could become comfortable with the water and learn water safety skills. My oldest, now 5 years old, loves the water and has been taking lessons for almost 4 years.

Swim Today Dara Torres (5 time Olympic swimmer) along with Momtrends are on an important mission to bring more awareness and attention that swimming is the #FunnestSport and introduce more parents to the benefits of swimming. Even though many families decide to teach their children to learn to swim, unfortunately, 80% of families do not consider continuing swimming as a sport. Swimming is truly a whole body workout while building self-esteem and self-confidence.
