My Name is Alma Book Review & Name Craft

Disclaimer:

Names are meaningful and everyone’s name has a special meaning. Little Alma was given a collection of names by her parents and each one has a very special meaning.

In the book Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal tells the story of how Alma got her name and what each one of them mean and stand for. This book encourages little ones to be proud and learn the story behind their own names as well.

After reading Alma and How She Got Her Name, my boys were curious to learn more about their own names. So, we decided to make a name poster and acrostic poem to celebrate their names!

Materials:

  • white computer paper
  • construction paper
  • colored pencils
  • washi tape
  • glue stick

  1. Look online to find the origin and meaning of your little ones name. We decided to ask Alexa; each boys asked her what their name meant and she was able to provide a pretty good definition.
  2. Using colored pencils, write the name on the top of the computer paper as well as the meaning

3. Use a piece of washi tape under the name and as a divider for the paper.

4. Write the name  vertically on the left side of the paper and have the child come up with words that begin with each letter that they feel represents them.

5. Use the glue stick to attach the computer paper on to a piece of construction paper.
