Nancy Drew and her crew are solving mysteries in the new film, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase (in theaters March 15).

We saw an early screening of the movie, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase (in theaters March 15) and it was filled with mysterious happenings, adventure and even a haunting! In this film, 16 year old Nancy (Sophia Lillis) and her dad move out of the city to start fresh in a small town that at first glance seems pretty boring for a teenager. Things soon get interesting when there is some unexplained ghostly activity in the Twin Elms mansion. Nancy, her girl crew and an enemy turned friend are quickly on the case to solve the mystery!

After seeing the film, we were ready to become detectives and decided to make our own magnifying glasses to search for clues!

DIY Magnifying Glass

  • Materials:
  • empty clear plastic 2 liter bottle
  • Black Sharpie marker
  • Scissors
  • cup of water

Use the Sharpie marker to draw circles around the curved top of the bottle then use a scissors to cut out the circles.

Find something you want to magnify, we used the cover of the book: Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase.

Add some water and watch as everything is magnified but be careful not to spill water all over your clues!
