Dance and music are great for the soul and this is a year we all need some uplifting activities. The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center has been offering year-round, community-based dance and music programming in a fully inclusive and nurturing environment for toddlers, teens and adults since 2001. Currently, a variety of live dance and music classes will be offered via ZOOM in the morning, afternoon or evening to easily fit into your families’ Fall schedule. The 1st quarter runs from September 29-November 30. I know my three boys have had a challenging time being at home for all these months and have been craving some music and movement. The Dance Center will be offering classes in a variety of genres including ballet, creative dance, hip-hop, jazz, tap, Modern, West African as well as music & singing classes where students can interact with their instructor as well as other students in real time. These interactive classes are sure to get students up and moving around.

Searching through virtual online classes to choose some virtual dance classes

The Mark Morris Dance Center FREE Virtual Open House will be held on September 19th  between 9am-3pm and will give students the opportunity to meet the Education staff as well as take sample trial classes on ZOOM at no cost before registering for the 8-week Fall sessions. The Open House schedule is packed with opportunities to sample parent/toddler movement classes, music & singing classes, dance classes for children, teens and even adults!

Virtual dance lessons can be taken anywhere, even outdoors

My boys (ages 6, 8 & 10) are really excited to choose classes from the Mark Morris Dance Center Children and Teen program and I am tempted to sign myself up for a dance class to dust off my own ballet or tap shoes. These virtual ZOOM classes will provide a much-needed creative movement break from their remote learning schedules to get them active and moving around.

Even though all the classes at The School are inclusive, there are Special Kids Dance classes with smaller class sizes that allow for a more intimate learning experience as well as optional parent participation. These classes will explore movement concepts, develop dance skills and give children the opportunity to learn simple, developmentally-appropriate choreography.
